Getting Started
QRMenoo is a web-based platform that lets restaurant, café, bar and hotel owners publish a digital menu accessible by scanning a QR code. The whole process works like this:
- You create your menu online — add categories (e.g. Starters, Mains, Drinks), then add individual items with names, prices, descriptions and optional photos.
- QRMenoo generates a unique QR code for your venue — a small square graphic that encodes a link directly to your live menu.
- You print the QR code and place it on each table — on a card, a sticker, a tent card, or directly on the table surface.
- Guests scan and browse — they point their phone camera at the code and your menu opens instantly in their browser. No app, no download, no friction.
Whenever you update your menu — change a price, add a new dish, mark something as unavailable — the changes go live immediately. Every guest who scans the QR code after that point sees the updated version automatically.
Yes, the free Bronze plan is genuinely free — forever. You do not need a credit card to sign up, and there is no trial period that expires. The free plan includes:
- One venue (restaurant, café, bar, or hotel)
- Unlimited menu items, categories and sections
- A unique QR code that you can download and print
- Instant menu updates that go live in seconds
- Multi-language menu display for guests
- Allergen and dietary labels on menu items
The free plan does show Google advertisements on your public guest menu, labelled clearly as ads. Paid plans (Silver and Gold) remove the ads, add item photos, unlock AI-powered features, and increase the number of venues you can manage.
No technical skills are required. If you can use a smartphone or a basic website, you can set up your QRMenoo menu. The dashboard is designed specifically for busy restaurant owners who are not technical — every action is straightforward:
- Adding items is as simple as filling in a name, price and optional description.
- Creating categories (Starters, Mains, Desserts, etc.) takes a few seconds.
- Downloading and printing your QR code is a single button click.
Most owners complete their full initial menu setup in under 30 minutes. Ongoing updates — changing a price, adding a seasonal special — typically take less than a minute.
No. This is one of the most important design decisions behind QRMenoo. Your guests open the menu by simply pointing their phone's camera at the QR code — the menu loads directly in their browser within a second or two.
There is no app to find in an app store, no account to create, no personal information required from the guest. This removes all friction and means even guests who are not tech-savvy — including elderly visitors — can browse your menu without any help.
The guest menu works on all modern smartphones: iPhone (iOS 11+), Android (any version with a camera that supports QR scanning), and any tablet or laptop with a camera.
Most restaurant owners go from sign-up to a complete, live QR menu in under 30 minutes. Here is a realistic time breakdown:
- Account creation: ~1 minute
- Setting up your venue name and language: ~2 minutes
- Creating categories (e.g. Starters, Mains, Drinks, Desserts): ~3–5 minutes
- Adding menu items (name, price, description): ~15–20 minutes depending on menu size
- Downloading and printing the QR code: ~2 minutes
If you use the AI description writer, you can skip writing individual item descriptions entirely — the AI generates professional, appetising descriptions based on the dish name, saving significant time.
Menu Management
QRMenoo uses two levels of organisation to match how real restaurant menus are structured:
- Sections — the top-level tabs your guests see: for example "Food", "Drinks", "Desserts". Each section appears as a tab in the guest menu so visitors can jump directly to what they want.
- Categories — groupings within a section: for example, within "Food" you might have "Starters", "Pasta", "Grilled Meats", "Salads". Each category has a heading and shows its items in a list below.
You can create as many sections and categories as your menu needs. Items can be reordered by dragging them within the dashboard, and categories can be moved between sections.
Yes, on the Silver and Gold paid plans you can add a photo to each menu item. Photos significantly increase the appeal of your menu — research consistently shows that menu items with photos sell considerably more than those listed with text only.
You can upload photos directly from your phone or computer. Supported formats include JPG, PNG and WebP. QRMenoo automatically optimises uploaded photos for fast loading on guests' phones.
The free Bronze plan does not include item photos, though all other menu content (names, prices, descriptions, allergens) is fully displayed.
All changes are made through your online dashboard at qrmenoo.com. Log in on any device — computer, tablet or phone — and navigate to Products. From there you can:
- Edit any item's name, price, description or allergen tags instantly
- Add new items to any category
- Delete items you no longer serve
- Reorder items within a category by dragging
Changes go live on the public guest menu the moment you save them — there is no publishing step or delay. The next guest to scan your QR code will see the updated menu immediately.
This is one of the most practical advantages over printed menus: if a dish sells out during service, you can remove it from the menu in seconds, preventing guests from ordering something unavailable.
Yes. QRMenoo has a full allergen and dietary label system. For each menu item you can tag it with any combination of the standard EU allergen categories:
- Gluten, Celery, Crustaceans, Eggs, Fish, Lupin, Milk, Molluscs, Mustard, Nuts, Peanuts, Sesame, Soya, Sulphites
You can also add custom dietary labels such as Vegan, Vegetarian, Halal, Spicy, or any other label relevant to your menu. These appear as small, visually distinct badges on each item in the guest menu, making it easy for guests with dietary requirements to make safe choices without having to ask staff.
Displaying allergen information prominently is both a legal requirement in many countries and a significant trust signal for guests, particularly those with severe allergies.
Yes. QRMenoo supports multiple venues under a single account. The free Bronze plan includes one venue. Paid plans allow you to manage additional venues, each with its own separate menu, QR code and settings.
You can switch between venues from the navigation bar at the top of the dashboard. Each venue is completely independent — different menus, different languages, different QR codes. This makes QRMenoo practical for restaurant groups, hotel chains, or owners who run multiple concepts.
QR Codes
Your QR code is a standard square black-and-white pattern that any smartphone camera can read. Once your venue is set up, you can download your QR code from the Print page in the dashboard.
QRMenoo generates a print-ready file that you can take to any print shop or print at home. The recommended minimum print size is 4×4 cm so that guests can scan it comfortably from a normal table distance (30–50 cm). Larger prints — 10×10 cm or more on table cards — make it easier for guests to notice and scan.
You can place the QR code on table cards, tent cards, menu covers, coasters, table stickers, window decals, or anywhere your guests can see it.
No — this is one of the key advantages of a digital menu. Your QR code is permanent and never changes. It encodes a link to your unique venue URL on QRMenoo, and that URL always shows the current version of your menu.
You update prices, add new dishes, remove seasonal specials, or change descriptions as often as you like. Guests scanning the same QR code they scanned a year ago will see your latest menu. You only ever need to print your QR code once.
Compare this to printed menus: every price change, new dish, or seasonal update requires reprinting the entire menu at significant cost.
All smartphones sold since 2018 can scan QR codes using the native camera app — no separate scanner app is required. iPhone users running iOS 11 or later (released in 2017) can scan QR codes natively. Android phones running Android 8 or later also have built-in QR scanning in the camera.
For guests with older devices, any free QR scanner app from the app store takes a few seconds to download and will then work with your menu. In practice, the vast majority of guests will have no difficulty.
For the rare guest who cannot scan a code — perhaps an elderly visitor with a basic phone — we recommend keeping a small number of printed menus or a tablet at the host stand as a backup. A hybrid approach (QR codes on tables, one printed backup per section) is common and practical.
Translations & AI Features
Guests can view your menu in any language that you have enabled. The supported display languages include English, Greek, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Turkish and Chinese, with more being added over time.
When a guest opens your menu, they can select their preferred language from a language switcher. If you have enabled AI translation for that language, they will see your full menu content translated. This is particularly valuable for venues in tourist destinations where guests arrive from many different countries.
The AI translation feature (available on paid plans) translates your entire menu into a chosen language with a single click. You select the target language, click "Translate", and the AI processes all your item names, descriptions and category names automatically.
The translation uses advanced large language models that understand culinary vocabulary — they translate dish names idiomatically rather than literally, and preserve the style and tone of your descriptions. For example, a Greek dish name like "Moussaka" would not be transliterated awkwardly but handled correctly in context.
You can review and edit any translation after it is generated. Translations are stored in your account so you do not need to re-translate every time you make a minor change to your menu — only new or edited items need updating.
Writing appetising descriptions for every dish on a menu takes time — time most restaurant owners do not have. The AI description writer (available on paid plans) generates a professional, food-styled description for any item in seconds.
You simply type or confirm the dish name, optionally mention the main ingredients or style, and the AI produces a description that highlights the dish's appeal — texture, aroma, preparation method, origin or pairing suggestions — in a readable, enticing way.
You can accept the suggestion as-is, edit it, or regenerate a new version. The goal is not to replace your voice but to give you a strong starting point, removing the blank-page problem that makes writing menu copy feel daunting.

QRMenoo uses Paddle as its payment processor. Through Paddle, you can pay with all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) as well as PayPal and various regional payment methods depending on your country. All transactions are processed securely by Paddle — QRMenoo never stores your card details.
Prices are displayed in Euros (€). Paddle handles currency conversion where applicable.
On the free Bronze plan, Google AdSense advertisements may be displayed on your public guest menu. These ads are clearly labelled and positioned so they do not interfere with menu navigation. They are the mechanism that allows us to offer the core product free of charge.
Ads are only shown to guests who accept advertising cookies in the cookie consent banner — guests who select "Essential only" do not see any advertisements.
On the Silver and Gold paid plans, guest menus are completely ad-free.
Technical Questions
Yes. The guest menu is a standard web page, optimised for mobile screens. It works on:
- iPhone: Safari on iOS 12 and later (any iPhone from 2015 onwards)
- Android: Chrome, Samsung Internet, Firefox and most other browsers on Android 6.0 and later
- Tablets and laptops: Any modern browser on any operating system
The menu loads without JavaScript being required for basic browsing, so it is accessible even on very basic or restricted browsers. Photos (on paid plans) load lazily, meaning they only download when scrolled into view, which keeps initial load time fast even on slow mobile connections.
Menu load speed is a priority. A guest menu that takes more than 3 seconds to load loses a significant portion of visitors before they even see the menu. QRMenoo addresses this in several ways:
- Menu pages are served from fast European infrastructure
- Pages use minimal JavaScript and load the core content before any optional enhancements
- Item photos are compressed and served in modern formats (WebP where supported)
- Photos load lazily — only when scrolled into view — so the first visible content appears almost instantly
On a typical 4G mobile connection, a menu with no photos should load in under 1.5 seconds. A menu with many high-resolution photos may take 2–3 seconds on first load, with subsequent visits faster due to browser caching.
Your account data (email, password, billing information) is stored securely and never shared with third parties for marketing. Passwords are hashed — even we cannot read them. Payment data is handled entirely by Paddle (our payment processor) and is never stored on QRMenoo's servers.
Your menu content (item names, prices, descriptions, photos) is by design publicly accessible — that is the purpose of a digital menu. Anyone who scans your QR code or knows your menu URL can browse your menu. Do not add any private or sensitive information to menu items or descriptions.
For full details on data collection, storage and your rights, see our Privacy Policy. QRMenoo is GDPR-compliant and operated from the European Union.
When you downgrade to the free Bronze plan — whether by cancelling a subscription or letting it lapse — your menu data is preserved in full. All your items, categories, sections, descriptions, photos and translations remain in your account.
The practical changes on downgrade are:
- Item photos are no longer displayed on the public guest menu (they remain stored in your account)
- AI features (translation, description writer) become unavailable until you re-subscribe
- Google advertisements may appear on your guest menu again
- Additional venues beyond the Bronze plan limit become read-only
Your QR code continues to work and your menu remains live and publicly accessible on the free plan. Nothing is deleted.
